Very informative article regarding water damage repair. Now i learnt more on what is the real deal behind a water damaged repair and what needs to be done to my laptop. Thank you.

If I bought all the recommended things and factoring in all the time I would spend inspecting every little connection I could have bought another macbook maybe twp. I don’t doubt the technical merits of this article but unless your doing this every day I would say clean the best you can with 99 Iso alcohol and hope for the best.

Bonjour, je dois inspecter dans les jours qui viennent un mac book pro qui a subit un dégâts des eaux ( ballon d’eau qui a largué) et ça fait uelques mois apparement. Je n’ai pas grand espoir pour la réparation mais je vais tenter quand même. Je vois que vous conseiller un nettoyeur à ultrasons, j’en ai un, je voulais savoir quel produit mettre dedans et comment le régler. On y met de l’alcool isopropyl?

Sadly didn’t see this guide before my second macbook bit the bullet due to my own stupidity. Luckily, I was able to revive it with some cleaning, but now I’m wondering how stable it’ll be long term… is there no diagnostic tools made for macbooks to test the internals beyond the apple-made shift-key one? Also, I spilled strawb milkshake on my original macbook air about 2 years ago, but did ultrasonic clean the logic board (only) shortly afterwards with some bronson (I think it was called) ultrasonic cleaner (recommended by louis rossmann)… it didn’t work after that, so I left it to rot… now I’m curious if I can revive it still, is it worth wasting my time or should I just dump it? ta

So several folks decided the best way to help would be to add their personal business website on ifixits free how to guide.......I would assume anyone wanting to pay someone to clean their mistake would have no trouble finding someone. I would think it would only hurt your odds of gaining a customer....maybe that's just me!!

in the smd repair video you never explained how you came to the conclusion to replace the components other than the display connector. most of these were caps, and you missed one at the end of the video.

Anyone capable of replacing an SMD component will know what to look for

Do you have to use a microscope to find water damage? Or can you just look really close?

I brought my M1 to the repairshop, a few days later they called me after they tested individual components, that all had suffered electrocution because of the battery power being dispersed all over the motherboard, by the liquid (coffee in my case). Apple didn't make these laptops modular; harddrive is soldered onto the mobo. But trying ultrasonic bath won't hurt it either. I hope yours survived. I keep mine in case the screen of my M2 fails.
